The Dept. of Oral Pathology & Microbiology is situated on the 3rd
floor of Subharti Dental College. Oral Pathology is catering to diagnostic services
for all the Depts. in the college as well as from outside with frequent
referrals. Apart from histopathologic reports, routine blood examination
and
microbiological studies are undertaken. The faculty is involved in both
undergraduate and post graduate teaching of Dental Histology and
Oral Pathology.
Cancer Detection Centre is part of the Dept. of Oral Pathology where thorough
oral examination is undertaken for early detection and prevention of oral cancer.
An exclusive
Oral Pathology Museum has been created with adequate hard and soft tissue
specimens along with clinical and microscopic details of pathologies for students
and visitors to understand about the subject at a glance. There are four Laboratories
in the Dept. for routine histopathology, undergraduate practicals, clinical examinations
and post graduate studies.
Seminar room
P.G. area and faculty rooms are the other rooms in the Dept. Immunohistochemical
studies have been undertaken and successfully completed.
ACHIEVEMENTS
Keeping in mind the high prevalence rate of oral cancer especially in this part
of the country where tobacco related habits are a common occurrence, the department
of oral pathology and microbiology has set up a cancer detection centre. Early recognition
of this deadly disease enables a more conservative approach limiting the fatality
of oral cancer to a great extent. Creating awareness amongst the general public
and detecting cancer prone areas in the mouth is the basic aim which is done with
the aid of some non-invasive diagnostic kits.
Dr. Susmita Saxena was the Vice President of Indian Association of Oral & Maxillofacial
Pathologists for the year 2007-2008
Dr Anushree Sharma ( PG-2008 batch) won Award for poster in 2008 AAOMP – IAOP joint
conference, San Francisco.
SPECIAL EQUIPMENTS
Research microscope with photomicrography facility is available supported
by image analysis software. Polarizing microscopy, darkground and phase contrast
microscopy and Fluorescence Microscopy are the additional facilities available in
the Department.
