The Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics at Subharti was established
in 1998 with the goal of imparting advanced education in Orthodontics and Dentofacial
Orthopaedics. Since its inception, it has been an epitome of excellence in teaching
& patient care.
The post graduation in the specialty was started in 2004 with three seats per year
in MDS degree course. Five batches have successfully cleared master program till
date. The faculty and students have read numerous research papers at national orthodontics
conventions & conference. The department is well equipped with all the latest
materials and equipments. The patients are treated with standard edgewise, preadjusted
edgewise, tip-edge, lingual, fixed functional, self-ligating appliances along with
latest clear aligners based on CAD-CAM Technology.
The department has a well furnished library that includes almost all the national
and international journals available in the specialty.
Training program of postgraduates includes regular sessions of pre-clinical, clinical
work, seminars, journal clubs and case discussions. The department provides pre
and post-surgical orthodontic treatment to othognathic surgery cases along with
management of cleft lip/ palate patients.
Special equipments
The department is well equipped with the latest digital Cephalometric software’s
including Nemocephand Eazycph along with conventional which
are routinely utilized by the postgraduates for diagnosis and treatment planning.
Achievements:
1st year Post Graduate won second prize (original research) and 2nd
year Post Graduate won third prize (clinical innovation) at National Orthodontics
PG convention 2011.
Research Projects:
Other than the compulsory dissertation by each postgraduate, quite a few research
projects have been done over a period of time in the department like:
1. Variation in mandibular molar morphology: 2 cusped versus 3 cusped molar. (Published
in Journal of Pierre Fauchard Academy, 2010).
2. Prevalence of arch form in north Indian population. (Presented at the National
Orthodontic Conference in Mumbai, 2008).
Clinical Innovation Projects:
Being in a constant pursuit of excellence, many clinical innovations have been done
which have been appreciated at national level.
1. Application of lingual force for retraction of teeth. (Won best clinical innovation
at National Orthodontic conference, 2008).
2. Modified Latham appliance in bilateral cleft lip/palate patients. (accepted for
publication in International Journal of Paediatric Dentistry, 2011).
3. Modified bracket head implant. (awarded at National PG convention, 2011).
